Our Mission
We’re a 501(c)(3)/NGO Cultivar Cartagena Charity organization on a mission to empower, educate, and cultivate lasting positive change in the marginalized communities of Cartagena, Colombia. We’re committed to addressing the immediate needs of these communities while also working to provide them with the skills, tools, and opportunities to build a better future.
We aim to:
- Nourish: It’s only when the most basic of needs are met that change can happen. Our Charity aim to alleviate hunger, create food security, and provide essential support to marginalized communities through our children's cafeteria, weekly grocery delivery and clothing provision.
- Educate: It's estimated that it takes 11.5 generations to rise out of poverty in Colombia, and education is a crucial pathway. In addition to English lessons that we've provided to hundreds of children in the past 3.5 years, we plan to provide music, financial literacy and urban gardening education in the future.
- Cultivate: Our long-term vision is to cultivate autonomy for individuals and families in Cartagena. By teaching families to grow high-yield, nutrient-rich food, we're sowing the seeds of self-sufficiency and food security. By offering classes in English, cooking, financial literacy and art, we will help to cultivate autonomy, culture, jobs, and new opportunities for those within the community.

Provide Essential Support for Operations at Our NEW Children’s Cafeteria
Every monetary donation makes a difference! All funds go directly to Cartagena, stimulating the local economy while also supporting Cultivar Cartagena operations. This includes funding for the children’s cafeteria- (food and supplies), jobs within the community (project manager, cooks), and other essential operational costs.
Sponsor a Clothing Donation Box
For just $85 to $150, you can help cultivate warmth and dignity by sending much-needed clothing to families and communities in Cartagena. These boxes are packed with essential clothing items and are delivered anonymously to individuals and families. This clothing not only provides warmth and comfort but also preserves the dignity of the recipients.
Sponsor a Family for 1 Year with Basic Food Staples
Transform lives with less than $23/week with basic food staples- rice, oil, beans, eggs, vegetables, etc- for a family of 4-6 people. Your generosity ensures that families will receive vital sustenance and nutrition and allow their incomes to go farther. By providing these families with groceries, we not only fill empty stomachs but also offer hope and relief to those facing economic challenges.
Sponsor an English Class
Provide weekly supplemental income to a local, qualified English teacher while also providing an unusual opportunity to this community to learn English.
Sponsor 10 Seniors with 2 Meals
Sponsor 10 seniors with a delicious restaurant quality meal- enough to serve two people or have plenty leftover for the next day. The meals will be cooked and delivered by Cultivar’s manager and his wife who are former restaurant owners.

Our Journey
Cultivar Cartagena’s journey was born during the 2020 pandemic. Cartagena, Colombia is a city heavily reliant on tourism. When its economy began to crumble, the relatively healthy statistic of 92% of people eating 3 meals a day became 60% of people, including children, eating 1 meal per day.
Our vision quickly evolved from delivering food to creating a sustainable solution for marginalized communities within this vibrant city.
In a country with many young people and an estimated unemployment rate of 10.73% we believe that by supporting children, women, and families in meeting their basic needs through practical solutions and collaborative initiatives, there will be a ripple effect of safety, security, and improved economy across these communities.
At our Charity Cultivar Cartagena, we have a multi-tiered approach to creating lasting change:

Cultivating Nutritious Food:
We believe that access to nutritious food and food security is the first step towards a better life. We provide groceries to families in need, ensuring they have the required nourishment. We also intend to teach families and individuals to grow high-yield, nutrient-rich food that can provide them with ongoing sustainable nourishment.

Cultivating Opportunities:
In a country where it takes an estimated 11 generations to reach the average income, we can help empower individuals to break the cycle of poverty by providing food security, education, skill development, and additional job opportunities. We aim to stimulate the economy and encourage additional opportunities outside of our organization.

Cultivating Autonomy:
Our goal is to create a community where people have the resources, knowledge, and confidence to shape their own destinies. By fostering self-sufficiency with food and creating opportunities for education and job creation, our initiatives aim to increase self-reliance and sustainability in Cartagena.

We believe that by nurturing creativity and culture, we can support the overall well-being of Cartagena’s community and allow its people to thrive. We envision a community center where people can explore the arts, express themselves through various mediums, and cultivate freedom of thought
What can it look like when we provide support?
One family receiving weekly grocery deliveries was able to shift from worrying about how to feed their family to saving and purchasing building supplies for their home.
What was previously just a tin roof over their heads now has walls, which has significantly improved their living conditions and safety.
